McDonald promoted at medicine group; Becker succeeds Stieger at receivables association; more departures and arrivals

McDonald promoted to top role at medicine group

The $72M-revenue American Board of Internal Medicine announced Furman S. McDonald will be the organization’s next president and CEO of both ABIM and the ABIM Foundation, effective Sept. 1.

“As a practicing internist, former program director and husband of a full-time physician scientist who is board certified in radiology and investigating breast cancer, Furman is uniquely attuned to what physicians and patients want and need from ABIM’s credential,” said Rajeev Jain, Chair of the ABIM Board of Directors.

McDonald joined ABIM in 2014 and is currently the group’s senior vice president for academic and medical affairs. He previously spent 13 years at the Mayo Clinic, most recently as residency program director and associate chair. He is also an attending physician of the J. Edwin Wood Clinic and faculty of Pennsylvania Hospital.

He has a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a doctorate in medicine from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Becker named next leader of receivables group

Receivables Management Association International has appointed Mike Becker as $3.7M-revenue RMAI’s next executive director. He succeeds Jan Stieger, who announced last year her intent to retire from the organization in March following 13 years at the helm.

“In my role as Executive Director, I hope to collaborate and work with members while serving their interests. I am also looking forward to helping strengthen and grow the RMAI Receivables Management Certification Program, as well expand the top-notch networking, event programming, and education opportunities for which RMAI is known,” said Becker in a feature posted by RMAI.

Becker spent the previous 17 years at the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents, where he began as a manager before working his way up to executive vice president and chief executive officer. Earlier in his career, he was a legislative assistant for the Consumer Healthcare Products Association and a legislative staff member at the U.S. House of Representatives.

He has a bachelor’s degree in government and international politics from George Mason University.

Riley to lead digital reporting group

The American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers announced Matt Riley has been selected as the group’s next executive director. 

“Matt brings not only a wealth of experience in association management, he also deeply understands the unique industry of court reporting, technology and changing industry needs. Matt has prior experience with schools and education for court reporting. He is the perfect fit for us at this stage of our accelerating growth to implement our strategic plans,” said Janet Harris, President of AAERT. 

Riley was most recently executive director of the International Federation of Fertility Societies. Previously, he was director of associations for International Conference Services, where he spent four years. Earlier in his career, he was executive director of CINP – The International College of Neuropsychopharmacology and spent six years at the National Court Reporters Association, most recently as senior director of meetings and professional development. 

He has a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from the University of South Carolina.

CFP BoardWilliam Mann has been named managing director of adjudication. Prior to joining CFP Board, Mann was managing director and deputy chief counsel at Charles Schwab for three years. Previously, he was deputy general counsel and head of litigation at TD Ameritrade and special counsel at law firm Schulte Roth & Zabel, LLP.

Governors Highway Safety Association—$6M-revenue GHSA recently announced the addition of two new staff members to its leadership team.

Daniel Zimmerman has been named senior director of government relations and policy. He joins GHSA from government affairs firm Boundary Stone Partners, where he was a director. Previously, he spent four years at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, most recently as senior manager of government affairs.

Additionally, Amadie Hart is the group’s new director of member education. Hart is the president of her own communications agency Hart Strategic Marketing, which she started in 2012. Previously, she spent five years at the Urban Land Institute, most recently as director of virtual ULI. 

Steel Manufacturers AssociationBrandon Farris has joined $2.2M-revenue SMA as vice president of government affairs. He joins the group from the National Association of Manufacturers, where he was vice president of domestic economic policy. Previously, he was head of federal government relations at chemical company The Chemours Company and senior counsel for government relations, Americas at chemical manufacturing company SABIC.
